The Lublin Metropolitan Area Association was established at the founding meeting on November 23, 2022, and was registered in the National Court Register on December 2, 2022.
The Lublin Metropolitan Area Association comprises 22 gminas (municipalities): Lublin, Bełżyce, Bychawa, Garbów, Głusk, Jabłonna, Jastków, Kamionka, Konopnica, Lubartów, the City of Lubartów, Łęczna, Mełgiew, Nałęczów, Niedrzwica Duża, Niemce, Piaski, Spiczyn, Strzyżewice, Świdnik, Wojciechów and Wólka and 4 poviats (counties): lubelski, lubartowski, puławski and świdnicki.
The aim of the Lublin Metropolitan Area Association (LMA)
is:
- To support the idea of local self-government, foster cooperation, and protect the common interests of the Members of the LMA Association, particularly promoting the socio-economic development of the Lublin Metropolitan Area
- To strengthen connections and jointly diagnose developmental problems for the entire LMA area, as well as work together to develop solutions for these issues.
- To jointly implement the objectives of the Supraregional Development Strategy for Lublin Metropolitan Area until 2030, the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan for LMA, and other common strategic documents, plans, and concepts.
- To cooperate in acquiring and utilizing external funds, including national and foreign funds, especially EU funds, which may be used to implement joint initiatives as the leader or partner in projects funded by external sources, including national and foreign funds, and EU funds.
- To cooperate in the effective use of resources from the European Funds for Lublin 2021–2027 program, national programs funded by cohesion policy funds, particularly in relation to ITI (Integrated Territorial Investments).
- To initiate and support collaboration among Association members in the preparation and implementation of projects and initiatives funded from the funds mentioned in points 4 and 5. To inspire and undertake joint initiatives that impact the development of municipalities and counties that are part of the LMA Association.
- To promote the partnership model of cooperation between local government units and other entities operating within the LMA.
- To carry out socially beneficial activities and assist the members of the LMA Association in fulfilling their metropolitan tasks.
- To create a platform for the exchange of information and experiences regarding the responsibilities of the associated local government units.
- To publicize and promote the initiatives undertaken by the LMA Association.

The Association achieves its goals,
in particular, through:
- Preparing and implementing the Supraregional Development Strategy for LMA and other strategic documents related to LMA, such as concepts and plans.
- Monitoring the implementation of the indicators of the Supraregional Development Strategy for LMA, the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan for LMA, and other strategic documents related to LMA.
- Effective use of resources from the European Funds for Lublin 2021–2027 program, national programs funded by cohesion policy funds, in relation to ITI (Integrated Territorial Investments).
- Submitting and implementing projects with external funds, including national and foreign funds, particularly EU funds, within joint initiatives, either as the leader or partner of such projects, other than those mentioned in point 3.
- Initiating and supporting cooperation between the LMA Association, its members, and other entities such as higher education institutions, public institutions, non-governmental organizations, economic entities, etc.
- Promoting the Lublin Metropolitan Area and the initiatives undertaken by the LMA Association.
- Activities aimed at exchanging experiences between local government units within LMA, as well as between metropolitan or functional areas, including organizing conferences, seminars, training sessions, and study trips.
- Expressing opinions and joint positions of the Association’s members, particularly towards government and regional self-government authorities, as well as other local government, economic, and social organizations.
